What is the status of Delta-9 use in Mississippi?

On Behalf of | May 28, 2025 | Criminal Defense

If you are a parent of a Mississippi teen, you already have a whole lot to worry about. There are grades, test scores, college apps, financial aid, peer pressure… the list goes on.

Naturally, parents worry that their kids may be experimenting with drugs or drinking when they are still underage. But now, there’s even more to worry about.

Is Delta-9 use legal in our state?

If you are unfamiliar with Delta-9 products, you may have wondered why it appears that your local convenience store is openly selling marijuana to its customers. It’s technically not doing that, as the 2018 federal Farm Bill and the Mississippi Hemp Cultivation Act both allow for the sale, use and possession of certain forms of low-level, hemp-derived THC products containing Delta-9.

But the products aren’t legal for teens

Much like alcohol, the hemp products are legal for adults aged 21 and older only. That means if your teen were to get caught in possession of Delta-9 products, they could face criminal charges.

Suddenly, your problems are much bigger than whether your child can get into a good school and pledge the right fraternity or sorority.

Always defend drug charges vigorously

Starting out your adult life with a criminal conviction on your record is never good. It puts you behind the eight ball on so many options and can close the door firmly to others. Your financial aid and even your acceptance and continued enrollment at your college or university could be jeopardized.

Learning more about how the Mississippi criminal justice system works is always a good idea when facing drug charges here in our state.
